Almost 60 years ago, Fino's Pharmacy opened its doors for business at 14 North Main Street, in downtown Pittston, in 1951, a block away from its present location at 32 North Main Street. The move was forced by a devastating fire at the original location in 1962.
    Pat Fino was the first of three generations to run one of the most successful pharmacy businesses in the area. The torch was passed to Pat's son, Michael, and at present is managed by Vince Peck, Pat's grandson, and is owned by Vince's mother, Mary Anne Fino Anzalone. Vince and his wife, Annette, who handles the daily operation of Fino's, are also parents to Dominick and Alexandra.
"We have stayed competitive with large chain pharmacies by competitive pricing and by providing free delivery and 24-hour emergency service," said Vince. "We not only deliver in Greater Pittston, but we even deliver as far away as Bear Creek, Kingston, and Old Forge. There are times I leave to go home after a long day and I have to come back in an hour. This was our commitment to the local residents from the beginning of our business, but we consider our customers part of our family. This is how my grandfather and my Uncle Mike Fino operated the business, and we are continuing that tradition. We get plenty of new customers every year, but we have some people whose families started coming to FinoÕs when my grandfather opened his business over 50 years ago."
    Vince is also elated that his son, Vince, Jr., is pursuing an education in pharmacy, and son Nicholas is seeking a degree in business. He is confident they will provide another generation to continue the success of Fino's Pharmacy. The family idea of Fino's Pharmacy even extends from the immediate family. Vince refers to the pharmacy's longtime employees, Mary Betz and Jack McCawley.
"They have worked so diligently for so many years with our business, that we consider them part of our family," he said.
    The Fino family tradition even goes beyond the Pittston business. Vince takes great pride in the fact that Dominic (Bob) Fino, his uncle, and cousins Mike and Dominic Fino have also had tremendous success with their version of Fino's Pharmacy in Dallas for so many years.
